Statement: Rampaging Youth is not Surrogate of Haruna Iddrisu

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South and caretaker Minister for Communication disassociates himself from any act of vandalism in Tamale. The act was unwarranted and does not represent his person as a political player in any possible situation.

The vandalism was not premeditated or motivated by Hon. Haruna in person or his stand-ins. It was purely a constitution of irate youth who was acting on their impulses following the release of the second batch of ministerial appointments.

Such knee jerk reactions are common phenomena of extremists of political parties, football teams, causes inter alia. Therefore, it will be completely unfair to ascribe the Honourable MP with such unformatted event.  

Tabloids and individuals do insinuate that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu was in Tamale to incite the youth into vandalism – that is a belief of coinciding falsehood. The MP came to Tamale purposely to commission an Electrification Project in Chang-Nayili, a farming community under his constituency on the 16th of January. (See pictures on http://facebook.com/HarunaInstitute). Therefore, the spins and twists should be rolled back.  

We entreat all constituents and following of Hon. Haruna to respect the President’s right to constitute an effective government as enshrined in the constitution of Ghana. The president has the reserved right to appoint who should or should not be part of his Government. We do not subscribe to any form of conduct that is not in consonance with the law.

As a matter of fact, conducts of chagrin has the propensity of blemishing the political prospects of the Honourable MP for Tamale South. Therefore, we disassociate ourselves from the act of vandalism and hopeful that it would not recur in future.

Mrs Haruna Mary Safua Donates to Tamale Orphanage on Boxing Day

Christmas season puts the whole world in a conspiracy of love. It is phase of reunion of families and friends to share fun, recollect past memories and plan for the future.  It is a period of abundance of both physical and emotional gifts to our dearest and nearest. Merry-making and big parties are the order of the season.

However, our sons and daughters at the orphanage somewhat has no pleasure Christmas bequeaths to the largely privileged society. It is sad to have observed that our children in these orphanages miss out the merry and joy of the yuletide. It is a conscious fact that every one of us could have end up in these homes. It is therefore incumbent upon the haves of society to extend a hand of love and kindness to orphanages at all times especially the seasons of love.  

This conscience-awakening fact motivated Mrs Haruna Mary Safua to on behalf of his family visit the Tamale Orphanage in Nyohini on Boxing Day.

It was all joy and grace when Mrs Haruna Mary Safua, wife of Honourable Minister for Communication, Haruna Iddrisu, visited the orphanage. She was there with family relations to offer her widow’s mite.

She donated to the orphanage assorted food and non-food products including a cash of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000.00). The items which were presented to the home included bags of rice and sugar, cartons of milk and beverages, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of soap, packs of sanitary pads, mixed bag of stationeries and so on.

Mrs Haruna after the presentation of the donation dined and interacted with the orphans and in her gestures expressed fulfilment. She noted in her speech that “these children are here not by any fault of theirs but by a litany of reasons such as death of parents, abandonment and unwanted pregnancies” She advised young women not to become pregnant if they were not ready for the task of caring for a child.

“As a mother I ask myself only one question: what if these children were mine. Will I be happy to see them in this condition?”, she empathised. Mrs Haruna observed that the facilities and conditions were not good enough for the proper upbringing and nurturing of the children. In her usual passionate voice, she believed there were many blessings in return for caring for orphans. She requested all mothers to be mothers of all but not some children.

The minister’s wife noted that the visit was going to be the beginning of many others to come. She mentioned to the orphanage to call on her at all times of need.  However, she called on individuals and benevolent groups to emulate and develop the attitude of giving. For it is in giving that we can place smiles on the faces of these innocent children. 

The supervisor of the orphanage, Madam Augustina Quainoo thanked Mrs Haruna and his family for the benevolence and magnanimity. She pledged that the items received will be put to good use for the benefits of the inmates. She also used the platform to ask for support from individuals and groups with the wherewithal.
